Bling Ornaments Workshop

Preparing Ornaments for Painting

1. Remove the ornament top and drip in polyacrylic using a dropper. Coat inside. Pour out excess, then turn upside down and allow to drip. Reverse every 30 minutes or so. Depending on humidity, the bulbs should be ready for glitter in about 3 hours.

2. Pour in glitter of choice. Roll the glitter around the bulb, then shake. Pour out excess and reuse.

3. Allow to dry overnight.

4. Reinsert hanger. If bulbs are not dry, the metal of the hanger can corrode, discolouring the bulb.

5. Clean ornament with rubbing alcohol

6. Adhere Bling stickers as desired. The single sheets from Michaels can usually do 2 to 3 bulbs, depending on size. Start from the top, and adhere downward. Do opposite sides.

Painting Ornaments

1. Decide on a colour scheme and plot out your flower locations. Once familiar with the process, this becomes more organic. Locate your biggest flower, considering the flow of the rhinestone swirls, and work from there.

2. We will do a simple 5 petal flower, but the sky's the limit.

3. Double load your flat brush with a light and dark colour. LOTS OF PAINT. The bigger the brush, the bigger the flower. Work the brush well on the pallet to get paint 3⁄4 up the bristles. This blends the colour across the brush. Depending on preference you can work with the dark out or the light out.

4. Lay out the first 3 petals in a Y, then fill in the remaining 2 in the spaces. Leave space in the middle for the flower centre. Use a shell stroke – place brush, wiggle, moving the outside edge of the brush further than the inside edge. Lift.

5. On glass and acrylic ornaments you must lay the paint down. Not too much pressure. The brush will be more flat than upright.

6. Paint leaves, butting up against flower petals, similar to shell stroke. Place brush,

wiggle, moving the outside edge of the brush further than the inside edge, then pull to a point.

7. Paint domed flower center with a scruffy brush or Q-Tip.

8. Allow to dry.

9. Embellish leaves/petals with metallics.

10.Paint Treasure Gold comma strokes and dots as embellishments.

11.Add individual jewels as desired.

12. Don’t forget to sign it.
