Please note that this workshop is only for AANL members, non members will be removed from the meeting.
Interested in drawing or painting botanicals but don't know where to start or if it's something you'd like to try? Or would you like to spend the afternoon drawing & chatting with other artists? Then we have a Zoom workshop for you!
AANL has invited Glynn Bishop, President of the Botanical Art Society of NL, to host a free online Paint & Chat session for members. Glynn regularly offers Paint & Chat sessions to his BASNL members. This session is available on Zoom only and is made possible through the support of the ArtsNL grant AANL received in 2023/24. Some members may remember Glynn from our one-day botanical workshop at the MUN Botanical Gardens last year, which our members thoroughly enjoyed.
During the Paint & Chat, watch as Glynn walks you through the graphite drawing of a winter plant protruding through the snow, then adds a little watercolour using a limited palette. He has provided a photo of the Pitcher Plant, allowing you to follow along if you wish. You are welcome to watch and learn only, draw & paint along, ask questions and chat with other artists. It's a relaxing way to spend the afternoon. Stay as little or as long as you wish. You are welcome to share the zoom link with friends or family who may be interested. A suggested list of materials is below, and the photo reference is attached, if you choose to paint along.
Date: Thursday, February 5th, 2026
Time: 1:30 - 4:00 pm.
Link: An email with the Zoom link will be sent to all members the day before the Paint & Chat session. Click the Zoom link on Thursday, February 5th, to join the session. When you click to open the link, be patient and wait until it opens, do not select any prompts. If you do not have Zoom on your computer, you can install it before the session, or you will be asked to install it when you click the link.
**No need to register for this workshop, just click the link to join on February 5th, 2026, if you are interested.
Suggested supplies :
Pencils H, 2B, 3B, 4B should be okay, nicely sharpened,
A kneadable eraser and a small tipped eraser if possible (Glynn has a TomBow)
A couple of fine pointed watercolour brushes, #2, #3 should be good if they have sharp tips.
A basic watercolour set, Glynn's has 16 colours, but a set of 12 will do. He won't use tubes of watercolor paint but you may do so. Colours may include umbers, siennas and sepia.
Glynn will be using 140lb hot pressed watercolour paper, but any hot pressed paper is good, or smooth sketchbook paper like 70lb, not cold pressed (rough surface). We won't use much water.
A small container of water and paper towel
